No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian wrapped up its fall campaign with a 12-6 trouncing over No. 9 Baylor at the Willis Family Equestrian Center on Friday in Waco.
The Maroon and White started strong, taking a 3-1 edge on Fences to start the day. Fifth-year Devon Thomas took the first point with an 81-78 victory over junior Lauren Reid, but Baylor quickly bounced back with fifth-year Madison Mitchell, defeating junior Alexa Leong. After an 80-80 tie between sophomore Kate Egan and junior Lauren Jorgensen, the Aggies won their last two matchups of the event with senior Brooke Brombach and sophomore Alida Treutling securing points.
A&M didn’t let up with a dominant 4-1 victory in Flat to take the 7-2 lead after Jumping Seat. Brombach, graduate Maggie Nealon and senior Rylee Shufelt won the first three fixtures by margins of five or more before Reid finally got a point back for the Bears. Thomas won the final matchup with a close 80-79 victory over Mitchell.
The Aggies left the afternoon’s third event with a narrow 3-2 win in Horsemanship. Seniors Millie Landon and Hanna Olaussen and junior Kaitlyn Bloom all defeated their Baylor counterparts, but sophomore Taylor Smith and junior Anna Thron were hard outs and gave the Bears another two points.
A&M tied with Baylor in Reining, 2-2, for the final event of the meet. Sophomore Anna Harris and senior Lauren Hanson’s two points secured the victory for the Aggies, but the Bears didn’t go down without a fight, with two victories from sophomore Riley Cachat and senior Bella Hehr.
The Maroon and White finished the meet with a 12-6 win over Baylor and a 1590.50-1544 edge in the final score.
The Aggies wrap up fall with a 5-2 record and return next spring at the Dallas Equestrian Center to face No. 5 SMU on Feb. 1, 2025.
