Mr. Stever’s, I hate to disappoint you, but the soldiers in Iraq are fighting for your freedom to not be a target of foreign agents or terrorists using the weapons provided by or financed by Saddam Hussein. They are fighting for your right to live in a world without fear. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness can only happen in relative security. As long as there are safe harbors for terrorists, we will not enjoy these freedoms. Our troops are fighting for a better tomorrow, a more free America, where terrorism is no longer a tool for wicked.
As for party lines, when a man votes against the $87 billion earmarked for body armor, ammunition and other vital supplies for our troops, he does not support our troops, whatever his motivation. I’m talking about all the Democrats who have voted down vital defense appropriations in the last 20 years. Politicians who don’t support our national defense do so at the peril of not just themselves, but all of us. When spending is diverted from defense appropriations to social programs, that puts as all in danger. What’s the point of those programs if we’re not around to benefit from them?
