The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team headed to Felton, Delaware Friday morning to take on No. 9 Delaware State for its first road matchup of the season and dominated with a 15-4 victory.
The Aggies jumped out in front early with a 4-1 lead over the Hornets in Flat. Graduate Maggie Nealon led A&M in scoring an 88 on Denali to start off the day with an MOP honor. Senior Rylee Shufelt , senior Brooke Brombach and junior Devan Thomas also picked up points for the Aggies with 81, 77 and 72, respectively. Delaware State senior Olivia Brown scored an 81 on Finnigan, picking up the Hornets’ lone point.
The Aggies tacked on an additional three points in Reigning before heading into halftime with a 7-2 lead over the Hornets. Senior Lauren Hanson garnered MOP recognition with 68.5 points, while sophomore Anna Harris and junior Gracie Casebolt added 73.5 and 71, respectively. Delaware State junior Estella Estus gave the Hornets a point with a 68.5.
After the halftime break, A&M scored four points in Fences to the Hornets’ one. The Aggies totaled 291 points from Brombach’s team-high 90, sophomore Kate Egan’s 89, sophomore Alida Treuting’s 70 and junior Alexa Leong’s 60. A&M ended Fences with an 11-3 lead over Delaware State, with Brown adding a point.
The Aggies ended the day dominating in Horsemanship with another 4-1 score over the Hornets. Junior Kaitlyn Bloom earned the first point for A&M, scoring a 73. Senior Ellie Gerbrandt earned MOP honors on her ride with an exciting score of 74.5. Senior Hanna Olaussen scored a 70 while junior Meagan Braun added a 63.5. Brown tallied her third point of the day with a score of 87.
Now 2-0, the Aggies will head to Bishop, Georgia to take on the 0-1 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 19.
