At Thursday’s Texas A&M University System Board of Regents meeting, regents announced University President R. Bowen Loftin will be honored with the “president emeritus” designation following his last day in office.
According to a press release from the university, regents also honored Loftin with the adoption of a formal resolution “expressing appreciation for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service.”
Loftin announced his plans to rejoin the Texas A&M faculty, stepping down from as the university’s president in July with the move becoming effective Jan. 13, 2014.
Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp formally recommended passage of the resolution at Thursday’s meeting, which the regents approved unanimously leading to t standing ovation for Loftin.
Sharp called Loftin, “one of the most popular presidents in the history of the school.”
