Four Texas A&M coaches received contract extensions Wednesday and Head Football Coach Kevin Sumlin had his contract restructured to reflect the new College Football Playoff.
Head men’s basketball coach Billy Kennedy had his contract extended for two years through 2018. Kennedy has compiled a record of 50-49 since arriving at A&M in 2011.
Men’s golf coach J.T. Higgins received a five-year contract that goes through Aug. 31, 2019. In his 14 seasons at A&M, the Aggies won the 2009 NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship and reached the NCAA Regionals 12 consecutive years, along with seven straight trips to the NCAA Championships.
Howard Joffe received a contract extension after leading the A&M women’s tennis team to the 2013 NCAA Championship finals in just his second year at the school. The Aggies have a record of 45-10 since Joffe took over in 2012 and finished last season ranked No. 3 in the nation, the highest-ever ranking for the club.
“Howard is an excellent teacher of the game of tennis, and he does a great job of developing our student-athletes on and off the court,” Athletics Director Eric Hyman said.
Women’s swimming coach Steve Bultman will receive a new contract that goes through June 2016. Bultman has been at A&M for 15 seasons, and the swim team has never finished lower than second at a conference meet under his direction. His team has an eight-year streak of top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championships.
“Coach Bultman is widely respected in the women’s swimming community not only in our conference and across the United States, but worldwide,” Hyman said.
