The Associated Press declared Republican incumbent Michael McCaul the winner of Texas' 10th District at 8:37 p.m. on Election Day, roughly an hour and a half after polls closed. He has held the seat since 2005 and represents a portion of land stretching from Harris County to east Austin, including Bryan-College Station. As chair of the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee, McCaul focuses on national security issues and advocates for strong measures that oppose China, Russia and Iran.
McCaul agrees with President-elect Donald Trump's stances on immigration and supports school choice policies. While in office, he has sided with Texas landowners in opposing high-speed railways between cities that would take land from residents. Despite not often speaking publicly on the issue, the incumbent consistently votes for legislation either demeaning or restricting abortion.
The 62-year-old will begin his 11th term in office on Jan. 3, 2025.
