With viewership of women’s soccer on the rise, what better way to join the movement than filing into Ellis Field for the first NCAA Tournament home match since 2019?
Coach G Guerrieri and the Fightin’ Texas Aggie soccer squad need the 12th Man’s support on Friday, Nov. 10, for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Colorado in the NCAA Tournament.
Since the highest attendance of the season at the Fish Camp Match against Baylor in August with 6,743 fans, the Maroon and White have had lackluster attendance. The final three games of the season’s attendance add up to less than the game against the Bears, and the second-most attended match was nearly a third of the Baylor match with 2,551.
The NCAA Tournament first-round match against Colorado could be the final match in the maroon kits for nine Aggies. Graduates include Maile Hayes, Lauren Geczik, Jordyn Gunnarson, Taylor Pounds, Andersen Williams, Kate Colvin, Laney Carroll, Kenna Caldwell and Sammy Smith.
It’s an Aggie’s duty to support its team. After a two-game losing streak for Aggie football, 95,297 showed up to Kyle Field for the South Carolina game. Sure, that’s under the 102,733 capacity, but just think about even 1/40 of that attendance at Ellis. With a 3,500 capacity at Ellis Field, A&M fans need to replicate that Fish Camp Match.
In A&M’s history with Colorado, it has fallen twice, once in 2006 and then in 2010. The Aggies have defeated the Buffaloes 17 times. The very last match between the two sides was in 2010, when the Maroon and White won in the Big 12 Tournament on penalty kicks.
If the ladies in Maroon and White can overtake the Buffaloes, they will play the winner of Florida State and Morehead State on Friday, Nov. 17. Imagine a rematch against the No. 1 team in the NCAA RPI in College Station.
A&M fell to Florida State 2-1 at Ellis Field in August. With more practice and reps under the Aggies’ belts, a faceoff against the Seminoles could show a different result. Yeah, the Florida State side is solid, but so is the 12th Man.
Show your support, and pack Ellis Field on Friday.
Students with their ID will get free admission into the Friday night match. Parking is free for those with a valid parking permit and $10 for those without.
