Aggies streak snapped at Wildcat Invitational

The Texas A&M women’s golf team’s streak of two consecutive top three finishes and three consecutive individual medalists no longer remains intact after this week’s Wildcat Invitational at the par 72 Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.
The No. 15 Aggies finished in fifth place out of 15 teams, four of which were nationally ranked top 25. They rounded out 39 strokes behind tournament champion No. 2 University of Southern California.
The distance between A&M and USC, or any team and USC for that matter, was not even close after they fired team scores of -8, -17, and -5 to post -30 (280, 271, 283; 834) for the tournament, 11 strokes ahead of eventual second place finisher and tournament host, No. 8 University of Arizona.
Four of five golfers who represented the Trojans in the team portion of the event also placed in the top seven of the individual leaderboard, including individual tournament champion Karen Chung, who shot -5, -4, and -2 for a tournament score of -11 (67, 68, 70; 205).
Maddie Szeryk sat atop the leaderboard for the Aggies after rounds of -1, -1, and -4, finishing at –6 (71, 71, 68; 210) and tied fifth place overall for the tournament. Bianca Fabrizio shot +8, (224) to finish tied for 30th. Marijosse Navarro did not compete.
A&M returns to the links on Friday, April 3 for the Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Mississippi.
