I have to give Mr. Castillo credit for being honest, however honesty doesn’t excuse bigotry. We should not simply ignore blatant racism simply because it’s being presented from a minority viewpoint. For example, if I change the word Latino to “white” in one sentence from his letter, this is what you get: “currently, the rise of whites in this nation is taking place. It is our time to take our rightful place in the history books…” I doubt that would have made it into The Battalion. I’m all for diversity and the celebration of what makes each of us unique, but I think there are less caustic ways to do so. We should be more concerned with coming together rather than pointing out what makes us different. We’re all Americans, and, more importantly, we’re all Aggies; so let’s not subdivide ourselves into black or white or Latino Aggies.
Simply being an Aggie should be enough.
