Winner: MAC football
Wow, what an exciting ending to a football game. The Buffalo Bulls stole a big-time road game, defeating the Eastern Michigan Eagles at home, 37-20.
Late in the fourth quarter, Eagles junior wide receiver Markus Allen scored a 78-yard receiving touchdown, after catching a pass from graduate quarterback Cole Snyder to make it 23 to 20. But the Bulls answered right back, with senior QB C.J. Ogbonna threw a 75-yard touchdown to junior running back Al-Jay Henderson to make it 30-20. Lastly, the Buffalo defense stopped Eastern Michigan’s comeback hopes, after Snyder threw a 60-yard pick-six to Bulls’ graduate linebacker Shaun Dolac.
I tell you what, the Mid-American Conference is an interesting conference. Despite not getting the same recognition as some of the power conferences, it can provide you some of the best college football highlights that you will ever see. Please, don’t sleep on the MAC.
Loser: coach Prime
Colorado might’ve blew their chances of making the Big 12 Championship and the College Football Playoff. The No. 16 Buffalos got upset by the 5-6 Kansas Jayhawks at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday.
Despite valiant efforts by senior QB Shedeur Sanders and junior two-way athlete Travis Hunter for the Buffalos, it was Jayhawks senior RB Devin Neal that stole the show. The senior had his best game this season, rushing for 207 yards and three touchdowns, while also securing one receiving touchdown.
Now a four-way tie for first place in the Big 12 between BYU, Iowa State, Arizona State and Colorado. The Buffalos need to beat a struggling Oklahoma State and pray for two out of the three teams to lose for a chance at competing in the Big 12 Championship. If the Buffalos lose, their Big 12 Championship chances and CFP dreams are gone for good.
Winner: DJ Lagway and Billy Napier
Florida was left for dead earlier this season after dropping two games by double digits at home. The program even released a statement to say that coach Billy Napier wouldn’t lose his job and will return next season. Wouldn’t say the vibes were great.
Enter true freshman QB DJ Lagway. The strong-armed passer is fully healthy from a hamstring injury he suffered against Georgia, and he looks like one of the most gifted quarterbacks in the country. The Gators have become a berserker in the SEC, beating LSU and No. 9 Ole Miss in back-to-back weeks. Napier may have found the ticket to long-term job security, and Lagway looks like a future Heisman Trophy hopeful.
Loser: The invention of the forward pass
Air Force made history today as the first team this season to win a game this year without completing a single pass in a 22-19 win against Nevada, rushing for 318 yards. The ironically-named Air Force Falcons only asked sophomore QB Quentin Hayes to throw three passes, in which he promptly went 0-for-3 with one interception. Real ball.
In an era where Tennessee coach Josh Heupel and USC coach Lincoln Riley attempt to destroy our beautiful sport with their gimmicky passing offenses, Air Force refusing to acknowledge more than 100 years of passing development was a welcome palate cleanser.
Winner: The state of Texas
It should be no shock that the scriptwriters have created such a high-stakes game between Texas A&M and Texas to close the regular season with the winner securing a trip to the SEC Championship game for the first time in either school’s history.
While this result seemed unlikely at first, thanks to the fall of Ole Miss and Alabama, the state of Texas will send one school to represent it in Atlanta, despite the heart-breaking, quadruple-overtime defeat A&M suffered Saturday at Auburn. A rebound may be in order for the boys in Maroon and White. However, it leaves us with just one question:
Will the city of College Station burn as the result of happiness or soul-shattering defeat? Better have the SWAT team. I don’t want riots at NorthGate.
Loser: The United States Department of Defense
Well, I can see where all of my tax dollars are going towards: 464 total yards allowed, seven touchdowns conceded and zero sacks. Now I understand that a new administration is about to take over in January but this is ridiculous. Sophomore RB Jeremiyah Love carried the ball just seven times but managed to barrel into the endzone twice and rack up 130 yards on the ground.
The Senate may be next the way Notre Dame played on Saturday against a team many were calling a dark horse contender for the CFP. Maybe we can get a football team for the Space Force Academy in Houston or something because time is running out for the service academies. If I can’t afford to buy McChickens, at least beat Notre Dame.
