Battalion facts
The Battalion is Texas A&M’s student-run daily newspaper. It averages a circulation of 23,500, but it has an estimated readership 60,000. The editor in chief is selected by the Student Publications Board, a division of the Journalism Department, each semester. The editor is responsible for the content of the paper and for the hiring of the staff.
The staff is organized by sections (or desks) and consists of between 70 and 90 students from a variety of backgrounds and academic majors.
The Battalion maintains high standards of excellence for its staff. As a student-run paper, The Battalion is always seeking ways to improve. At a school as big as A&M, we can only improve our coverage with a little help from you, our readers. This guide is meant to help you to help us in bringing to the pages of The Battalion a more accurate reflection of life at A&M.
Independence
It is important to remember that The Battalion is an independent news organization. All decisions about coverage are made by the editors without regard to personal biases or outside pressure. Sources for stories are not allowed to read the story before publication. However, they may request that their quotes be read back to them by the reporter.
