Yell leaders are under investigation by University officials for hazing and could face disciplinary sanctions.
Dr. Dave Parrot, dean of Student Life, declined to discuss the specifics of the allegations and whether they implicated all five yell leaders, but said his department began an investigation the week before spring break after yell leader adviser Rusty Thompson forwarded hazing allegations to Student Life.
“We were looking into some behavior indicating the possibility of hazing among the yell leaders,” Parrott said.
The fact-finding phase of the investigation is complete, Parrott said, and a Student Life disciplinary panel will conduct a hearing for each of the yell leaders involved and decide whether to hand down sanctions. The process could take a few weeks to complete, he said.
Although the current yell leaders are all Corps members, Parrott said Corps officials did not initiate the investigation because yell leaders are a separate student organization.
Bailey declined to discuss the allegations, but said he does not believe the hazing investigation would erode students’ trust in himself and Lusk.
“I’m not worried about (the hazing allegations) being anything that would prohibit us from being yell leaders,” said Bailey, a junior agricultural development major.
