Big Event is important function for A&M

I don’t get into much of the Aggie traditions, but if there’s one thing about Aggies that would make me want to get into the spirit, it’s their passion for helping others. If you want to protest the new ordinance, then do something productive to prevent it from happening in College Station. Petition, raise awareness or just attend city council meetings and state your case in a well informed, well organized manner, but don’t take away from those in need. I understand you’re upset, but cancelling The Big Event won’t sway the opinions of the city council members, and it won’t punish them in any way. All it will do is hurt the reputation of A&M and deny important community services to those in need. If you really want to change people’s minds about the roommate limitations ordinance, show them that students are worthy of their support. Redouble your efforts in the community, show you care – make Aggies seem like benevolent creatures. Each person who has been helped by an Aggie will be one more person on your side, and you’ll be that much closer to preventing more threatening ordinances in the future and maybe revoking the one in place.
