RELAY FOR LIFEThe American Cancer Societies Relay for Life will be from 7 p.m Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday at Anderson Track and Field Complex, parking in Lot 61.
More than 1,900 participants in 158 teams have raised more than $110,000.
Jacqueline Cisneros has yet to miss the American Cancer Societies Relay for Life since the charity event was first brought to Texas A&M in 2006.
“There’s a survivor walk to honor survivors who walk around the track. One member from each team will be walking constantly around the track,” the senior American studies major said.
“There are games and contests for the participants,” Cisneros said. “You will have thousands of students fundraising throughout the night. [People] doing bake sales, selling root beer floats and Frito pies. There have been some massages [in the past].”
There will be a special event for any pageant queens who may be in attendance. It will be a drag queen pageant titled the “Miss Relay for Life pageant.”
Cisneros said students who come to the event will be touched by how caring Aggies are for those who are in need.
“I think they will be overwhelmed by how Aggies come together,” Cisneros said. “Be prepared to have a really fun time, and bring some cash so you can buy [what teams are selling.] I think they will be just amazed at how many people come together to fight this cause, how overwhelming and exciting the whole thing can be. It’s a very rewarding experience, a wonderful cause, and it’s great to see how much Aggies can give.”
