Easterwood Airport hopes to expand its number of inbound and outbound flights starting next year.
The expansion, according to a TAMU System press release, will be made possible by a $475,000 federal grant. According to the release, only 11 communities out of 53 applications were selected to receive money from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Small Community Air Service Development Program.
The release states the grant was awarded to Easterwood Aiport due to the airport’s partnerships with the TAMU System, the Research Valley Partnership, Brazos County, the cities of College Station and Bryan and other local entities.
The regional airport currently has eight flights a day, but the grant will give airport officials the opportunity to offer incentives to airlines in order to increase the number of flights.
