Ben Johnson announced the suspension of his campaign for Student Body President during the SBP Debate on Feb. 20.
Johnson said the decision to withdraw came after deliberations with those close to him.
“The reason I wanted to run for student body president was to give 110 percent to bettering this university,” Johnson said. “I truly believe that anyone who is out there can do that and after much discussion with family, friends and campaign staff I believe it’s best if I withdraw my name from this race but I want to thank everybody for this opportunity. Thanks and Gig ‘em.”
Johnson left the debate after his announcement.
This move follows Monday’s resurface of a post Johnson made in high school with an offensive hashtag about Asian-Americans. Johnson has not addressed the reason he dropped from the race.
