Former A&M student and former Texas governor Rick Perry, Class of ’72, dropped out of the 2016 presidential race Friday, according to an article by ABC News.
According to the article, Perry, who launched his campaign on June 4, informed the Eagle Forum of his suspension of his presidential campaign Friday afternoon.
Most recently Perry has been polling at 1 percent in the first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa, and was supposed to participate in the lower-tier CNN GOP debate Sept. 16.
“We have a tremendous field — the best in a generation — so I step aside knowing our party is in good hands, and as long as we listen to the grassroots, the cause of conservatism will be too,” Perry said at the Eagle Forum.
