Starting July 1 Texas A&M University System employees are able to add their same-sex spouses and stepchildren to their insurance benefits, according to a memo from Janelle Ramirez, interim associate vice president for human resources and administrative services.
Same-sex spouses of TAMUS employees are also allowed dependent leave benefits, such as those afforded under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
A special 60 day enrollment window has been implemented for TAMUS employees with same-sex spouses to complete and return the dependent enrollment form.
The extension of benefits is a direct result of the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges.
