Student senate to formulate stance on tuition changes

Student Senate will take a stance on the proposed student tuition and fee increase at a special 7 p.m. meeting Wednesday. The vote on the matter will come after a presentation on the changes by Jerry Strawser, vice president of finance and administration.
The tuition changes introduced by the university include a 2.2 percent tuition increase for incoming students, and a $20 per semester fee increase to go towards funding advising.  The fee changes will also only apply to incoming freshmen.
Aaron Mitchell, speaker of the Student Senate, said the stance of Student Senate on the tuition increase will be decided by a student government vote, but the stance on the $20 fee increase will possibly be put to a student-wide referendum vote.
“In regards to the academic advisors we’re going to be holding a referendum, where every student can go and vote and say whether or not they support the fee, and that will be taking place from Thursday at 4 p.m. until Tuesday at 5 p.m.,” Mitchell said.
