Members of Brazos Valley YoungLife were on their way to the organization’s Frontier Ranch in Colorado when they were involved in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 35.
Texas A&M student Anna Wegner was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Wegner was also a member of the Texas A&M chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta. A post on the sorority’s Facebook page said Anna made an impact which will never be forgotten.
“Anna was a faithful friend, loving sister, bold life changer and a light to so many,” the post said. “During her one year in Theta she touched countless lives and left everyone better than she found them. She was the life of the party and a ray of sunshine with her beautiful smile and laugh. To know Anna was to love Anna.”
Blake Rodgers, a member of YoungLife passed away on May 19 after spending a week in the intensive care unit due to injuries sustained in the accident. A physician and family friend posted an update on Rodgers’ CaringBridge page Saturday, saying Rodgers was surrounded by his family as he passed.
“Blake lived a spectacular life, but his best days are yet to come,” the post said. “The miracles came true! Alleluia. If you look closely you can see Blake walking, smiling, laughing hand in hand with His Creator. Well, probably giving a fist bump.”
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a tire on the Toyota 4Runner blew out near mile marker 348 around 1:40 p.m. Saturday May 12, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The SUV overturned multiple times and ejected three passengers. Wegner was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mackenzie Davis, general studies freshman, broke her pelvis, foot, and wrist in the accident. She is currently at Baylor Scott & White, where she has had surgery on her spine and pelvis. YoungLife has created a GoFundMe page to help Davis’ family with medical expenses.
