One game down, four to go.
The No 23 Texas A&M Softball team got off to a great start at the Mary Nutter Classic with an 8-5 victory over the BYU Cougars early Friday afternoon.
Early on, the Aggies were hot. A double from sophomore April Ryan brought home Brittany Clopton and Alex Masek to get the Aggies on top in the first inning. A&M continued with a single from junior Cali Lanphear to bring in Tori Vidales and Ryan.
The Aggies (8-4) stretched their lead to 6-0 in the fifth until the Cougars got on the board with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth, but their effort was not enough to come back..
Senior Rachel Fox threw 10 strikeouts in a complete game.
The Aggies continue the tournament with a doubleheader Saturday against UCSB and Cal State Fullerton. First pitch is at 11:30 a.m.
