A&M prepares for upcoming SEC tournament play

The Texas A&M men’s and women’s tennis teams are preparing for the upcoming SEC tournaments that commence Wednesday, April 15. Having both finished their regular seasons off strongly, the men and women will enter their respective tournaments ranked among the top three seeds.
The No. 7 Aggie women’s team (15-4, 11-2 SEC) will be traveling to Columbia, South Carolina to compete in the SEC championship in which they will be the 3-seed. Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Georgia all finished in a three-way tie for second place in the conference ranks and the seeding was divided due to head-to-head competition.
A&M concluded the season having won 12 of its last 13 games including its current streak of seven straight wins.  The Aggies will begin play Friday when they play the winner of 6-seed LSU and either 11-seed Arkansas or 14-seed Missouri at 1 p.m. During the regular season, A&M defeated all three of its possible contenders.
Should the Aggies win their quarterfinal match, their match in the semifinals would be played Saturday at 11 a.m. The SEC championship match will be played Sunday at 11 a.m.
The No. 6 A&M men’s tennis team (18-4, 11-1 SEC) finished out the regular season by earning SEC co-champion honors along with Georgia. Both the Aggies and Bulldogs recorded 11-1 conference records, but the Bulldogs earned the 1-seed due to the head-to-head match-up in which the Aggies fell 1-4.
The Aggies will not be entering the tournament sans momentum as they have captured wins in their last nine conference matches and have won ten of their last eleven matches to close out the regular season.  It also will be to the advantage to A&M that the men’s tournament is held in College Station.
As the 2-seed, the Aggies will play their first tournament match on Friday at noon against the winner of 7-seed LSU and 10-seed South Carolina. A&M defeated both teams in the regular season by a combined score of 8-2. If the Aggies were to advance, the semifinal match will be played Saturday at noon The Championship will be played Sunday at noon. Listed below is the tournament schedule.
