The No. 5 Texas A&M women’s basketball team will take on the Northwestern State Lady Demons at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reed Arena to complete a five-game homestand with Elementary School Day.
More than 4,000 students from Bryan-College Station will be in attendance. Head coach Gary Blair said he loves the energy and atmosphere the children bring to Reed Arena.
“We’re going to have 4,500 elementary school kids that are going to be yelling,” Blair said. “If that doesn’t inspire our kids, then nothing will. They’re going to be yelling whether we mess up or make something happen. They’re just happy to be out of school, they’re having a good time, it’s just going to be a great event.”
The Aggies (7-0) are coming off a 63-59 come-from-behind victory over No. 8 Duke, while Northwestern State, which made last year’s NCAA tournament, is coming off a 73-41 win over Central Baptist College.
The trio of Courtney Walker, Courtney Williams and Jordan Jones have been the three main cogs in the A&M offensive attack, with Williams playing well after serving a suspension for violation of team rules. Courtney Walker has scored in double figures for 20 straight games dating back to last season.
Blair said it’s important to turn the page after a big win and move on.
“If what you did yesterday still looks good to you, then you haven’t done much today,” Blair said. “The film doesn’t lie, we made some mistakes. That’s what November is all about. You don’t get too high, you don’t get too low, you just turn the page and go.”
