Texas A&M head football coach Kevin Sumlin suspended junior linebacker Steven Jenkins and sophomore defensive back Howard Matthews one game for violating team rules.
Reasons for the suspension are unknown.
In what is supposed to be one of the most, if not the most, anticipated season in Aggie football history as it makes its move from the Big 12 to the SEC. The Aggie defense is switching to a 4-3 defense where both Jenkins and Matthews are expected to be key contributors.
Jenkins, who will be a senior this fall, had 61 tackles with one sack last season when he appeared in all 13 games while starting six. Matthews had 28 tackles with two sacks while forcing one fumble in all 13 games while starting two games.
Texas A&M kicks off the season on the road against Louisiana Tech.
