The Texas A&M baseball team is poised to be overflowing with talent in 2025 after a number of players announced their return to the team for next season. But with several additions to the roster via the transfer portal, it’s hard to deny that the Aggies will be loaded by the time next season rolls around.

Michael Earley’s hiring as head coach on June 30 was met with seven recommitments to the program from players that had entered the transfer portal upon coach Jim Schlossnagle’s move to Texas. Each appeared during A&M’s run to the College World Series finals, which ended with a loss to Tennessee in Game 3.

The Aggies had notched two transfer commitments before Schlossnagle’s departure, with both Penn senior 3B Wyatt Henseler and Fairfield senior 1B Matt Bergevin reinforcing their intentions to play in College Station since Earley’s hiring.

In the days that followed Earley taking the job, A&M added Texas Tech junior 1B Gavin Kash, USC sophomore C Jacob Galloway and Cisco College sophomore RHP Kyrin LeBlanc. On July 7, McLennan Community College freshman RHP Clayton Freshcorn and Long Beach State junior LHP Myles Patton joined the mix.

Rice sophomore INF Ben Royo and Alabama State sophomore UTIL Jamal George committed to the Aggies on July 8. Saint Mary’s C Connor “Bear” Harrison committed on July 10. Washington junior RHP Grant Cunningham joined A&M on July 20.

Henseler’s commitment to the Aggies dates back to September 2023, when he announced his transfer ahead of Penn’s 2024 season, per Ivy League rules. Henseler backed up his commitment with a unanimous Ivy league Player of the Year showing, leading the Quakers with a .360 batting average, 22 home runs, 56 runs batted in, 72 hits, 64 runs scored and a 1.220 OPS.

The Pennsylvania native wraps up his career at Penn as arguably the top player in program history, starting all 161 games of the past four seasons. His 232 hits, 54 home runs, 189 RBIs, 181 runs and 50 doubles sit atop the record books while his home runs and RBIs also rank first in Ivy League history. The Quakers reached the NCAA tournament in the past two years.

After playing third base his entire career at Penn, Henseler could find himself playing elsewhere in A&M’s infield should SEC Freshman of the Year Gavin Grahovac remain at the hot corner. It will mark the second season in a row in which the Aggies have recruited a Quaker after senior C Jackson Appel hit .331 with 10 homers in 2024.

Bergevin doubled down on his June 10 commitment following a season on the All-MAAC Second Team. He paced the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with 18 home runs and ranked in the top 10 in runs scored, OPS, walks and RBIs. The Stags went 34-24 and 20-4 in league play as Bergevin hit .287 in 55 starts.

The Arizona product also had the seventh-most strikeouts in MAAC play last season. Bergevin started 155 games across three seasons at Fairfield, accruing 37 home runs, 147 RBIs and a .303 batting average after batting .363 in 2023.

There will surely be competition at first base though as Kash, a top-10 player in the transfer portal, committed to A&M on July 2 following two seasons at Texas Tech. He began his career at Texas in 2022, where he made four starts in backing up the Big 12 Player of the Year, 1B Ivan Melendez.

Kash’s stock skyrocketed in Lubbock as he became a focal point of the Red Raiders’ offense over the next two years. He paced the Big 12 with 26 home runs, 84 RBIs and 182 total bases while batting .327 in 2023. Kash was a unanimous pick for the All-Big 12 First Team as the only Texas Tech player to start all 64 games.

The Sour Lake native saw his production dip after being tabbed as a preseason Second Team All-American in 2024, yet still hit .300 with 51 RBIs. Kash’s 15 home runs and 237 at-bats were still good for top-10 in the conference as he was named an All-Big 12 honorable mention.

Announcing his commitment on July 3, Galloway was a mainstay behind the plate for USC in 2024, starting 57 of the Trojans’ 59 games while batting .286. He knocked in 40 runs to tie for the team-high while his six long balls were good for second, leading to an All-Pac-12 honorable mention nod. He also played outfield in high school.

The Aggies got eyes on Galloway during the Kubota College Baseball Series in Arlington on March 2  as the California product picked up a single with an RBI sacrifice fly in a 9-3 A&M win. After sophomore C Max Kaufer’s transfer to South Carolina, Galloway could be the Aggies’ starting backstop if Appel is drafted this summer.

LeBlanc rebuffed talk of A&M players following Schlossnagle to Austin by flipping his commitment from the Longhorns to the Aggies on July 6. The Louisiana native was a Texas State commit before a 2024 campaign in which he made 17 appearances, with all but one out of the bullpen.

Nicknamed “Mr. Triple Digits,” LeBlanc’s fastball has topped out at 102 miles per hour. He put together a 2-1 record this past season with a 5.40 ERA over 21 ⅔ innings and two saves. He allowed 18 hits and 22 walks with 35 strikeouts, good for 14.54 punchouts per nine innings and a 1.85 WHIP.

Freshcorn joined LeBlanc from the junior college ranks after a freshman campaign of 16 appearances and 10 starts. The Waller native built a 4-3 record with a 2.36 ERA over 61 innings, allowing 45 hits and 18 walks with 79 strikeouts. With a fastball touching 95 miles per hour, Freshcorn was a First Team All-NTJCAC starting pitcher. The Highlanders reached the NJCAA DI World Series to cap off a 43-19 season.

Patton’s 2024 campaign was cut short by injuries at the start of May, but not before he delivered an All-Big West honorable mention showing. He started 11 games over 66 ⅓ frames, allowing 52 hits and 24 walks with 85 strikeouts. Patton’s 11.53 punchouts per nine innings rank sixth-best in the Dirtbag record books.

The California product went 4-3 with a 3.26 ERA this past season, improving upon a 3-4 record and a 6.18 ERA over 13 appearances in 2023. Patton’s opponents’ batting average dropped significantly from .339 to .216 over the two years. Last season he finished in the top 10 in the Big West in strikeouts, opposing batting average and ERA.

Royo joins the Aggies with 71 starts for the Owls over the past two seasons. His freshman campaign saw him make the Conference USA All-Freshman Team with a team-high 13 home runs, the third-most by a freshman in program history and third among freshman shortstops in 2023. Royo’s 40 RBIs were second on the team and one short of tying the Rice freshman record.

After starting all but one game in 2023, the Corpus Christi native’s production dropped with 23 starts in 2024. Royo collected just one home run and knocked in five runs while batting .169.

George was named the 2023 SWAC Freshman of the Year for a season that saw him start each of Alabama State’s 57 games. He hit at a .284 clip while mashing six home runs and 34 RBIs as the Hornets went 41-18 overall and 26-4 in conference play.

The Puerto Rico product improved his numbers for 2024 with a .310 batting average, .927 OPS, nine home runs and 35 RBIs. He stole 10 bases for second on the team while never being caught stealing. George primarily played catcher at Alabama State but can be used across the diamond. He is competing for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team this summer.

Harrison made the WCC All-Freshman team in 2024, starting 42 games and batting .322 with a .951 OPS, eight home runs and 36 RBIs. He held down the catching position for the Gaels and represents another option behind the dish for the Aggies, joining Galloway and George.

Cunningham earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention recognition in 2024 as the Huskies’ top arm out of the bullpen with 50 ⅓ innings. He put together a 3-4 record with a 2.86 ERA and struck out a team-high 56 batters with 16 walks. From March 1 to April 5, Cunningham built a streak of 20 scoreless frames over seven appearances.

The Seattle native became one of Washington’s top relievers as a freshman, logging 53 ⅓ innings over 21 games. Cunningham went 1-3 in 2023 with a 4.56 ERA, striking out 39 batters and walking 13. He follows pitching coach Jason Kelly to College Station following the latter’s two seasons as head coach at Washington and looks to be a key piece in A&M’s bullpen as a middle reliever.
