Texas A&M volleyball will kick off its postseason journey in the desert as it heads to Tempe, Arizona for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament, as announced on Sunday’s selection show. The No. 6-seed Aggies will take on Colorado State at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Desert Financial Arena to get the action started.
A&M will face the winner between No. 3-seed Arizona State and New Hampshire if it wins its first-round matchup with the Rams, who went 20-10 this year with a 14-4 record in the Mountain West. It’s the Aggies’ second season in a row qualifying for the 64-team, single-elimination tournament under coach Jamie Morrison.
The Maroon and White enter the postseason on a four-match winning streak to cap off the regular season. A&M went 19-7 with a 10-6 mark in SEC play, its first time reaching double-digit wins in conference action since 2019. The Aggies earned wins over two ranked opponents and nine NCAA Tournament teams.
A&M is captained by the All-SEC First Team duo of junior opposite hitter Logan Lednicky and junior middle blocker Ifenna Cos-Okpalla. It’s Lednicky’s third all-conference distinction of her career and Cos-Okpalla’s first. The Aggies are one of four SEC teams with two players earning First Team recognition.
Lednicky racked up a career-high 419 kills this season, good for 4.32 kills per set, with both ranking second among opposite hitters in the conference. She added 89 blocks for 475.5 points and 4.90 points per set, which also ranks second for SEC opposite hitters.
Cos-Okpalla was one of just two middle blockers in the league with 200 kills and 140 blocks this year. She amassed a career-best 208 kills at a .378 hitting percentage. The Flower Mound native added 143 blocks, tying the program record in a four-set match with 13 against Georgia on Nov. 22.
