After losing both its coordinators to the coaching carousel, No. 7 Texas A&M football again hired internally, as co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins was tabbed as the program’s next full-time offensive coordinator.
According to coach Mike Elko, A&M interviewed five candidates, including external options, but only offered the position to Wiggins. Elko also confirmed that offensive coordinator Collin Klein will remain the Aggies’ playcaller throughout the team’s run in the College Football Playoff.
Wiggins, a former standout running back at New Mexico, is in his second year with the Aggies after being hired away from Alabama. While with the Crimson Tide, Wiggins was paramount in Heisman Trophy winner Devonta Smith’s historic 2020 campaign.
In addition to coaching Smith, Wiggins developed a handful of other NFL WRs in Alabama’s latest national championship year, with John Metchie III and Jaylen Waddle going off to the big leagues.
Wiggins’s promotion not only provides continuity with the loss of Klein to his alma mater, Kansas State, but the chance to elevate A&M’s current roster, especially with the likely return of star sophomore WRs Mario Craver and Terry Bussey.
