Police officers were faced with a multi-car theft and subsequent chase on Monday afternoon. According to a College Station Police Department news release, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Jones Butler Road and Harvey Mitchell Parkway South to probe a major accident.
Officers were informed that one of the vehicles involved was stolen. The Bryan Police Department advised the officers that the suspect of the stolen vehicle had shoplifted from Q Beauty on Texas Avenue, fled the scene and stole a CARQUEST delivery car that had the keys in it from the CARQUEST parking lot on Texas Avenue.
While driving the getaway car, suspect Coty Joe Lohse of Bryan, hit another vehicle at the intersection of West Villa Maria Road and Wellborn Road, and fled the scene of the accident.
According to CSPD, a witness followed the suspect until they became involved in a second crash at Jones Butler Road and Harvey Mitchell Parkway South. As the CS Fire Department arrived to the scene to check the drivers for injuries, the suspect stole the ambulance and drove toward Holleman Drive.
The suspect fled to the McDonalds drive-thru at George Bush Drive and Marion Pugh Drive where he ran the ambulance into a concrete pillar. After officers investigated the third crash, the ambulance was finally located at the Holleman Drive and Carolina Street intersection.
CSPD said the suspect was taken into custody and is being charged with first-degree felony theft due to the value of the ambulance being approximately $250,000. The case remains under investigation.
