Alexander Jones, the 2016-2017 Aggie Band Command Sergeant Major and the incoming combined Band Commander, was killed on the evening of Feb. 19 in a collision with an 18-wheeler, according to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident took place in the 6200 block of West Highway 21 near the RELLIS Campus. According to the press release, a witness stated Jones crossed the centerline and struck the semi-truck head on. Officers arrived to find both the semi truck and Jones’ vehicle on fire. The Brazos County Volunteer Precinct 4 Fire Department, along with the Bryan Fire Department responded to the scene and stopped traffic for several hours.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the semi-truck was transported to CHI St. Joseph in Bryan and later released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
