Students gathered in Academic Plaza Friday night as Election Commissioner Paige Rigsby stood on top of the Sul Ross statue to announce the results of the Spring 2018 student body elections.
A total of 15,363 votes were cast. After the announcement of the winners for each position, the full unofficial results were made available online. Results will be certified Feb. 25, according to the Election Commission’s student body election calendar.
Amy Sharp was elected 2018-2019 student body president, with Harrison Hancock and Michael Zimmerman coming in second and third, respectively.
Candidates from 5 for Yell swept the Yell Leader elections for the third straight year. Blake Jones, Gavin Suel and Connor Joseph will serve as Senior Yell Leaders. Reid Williams and Karsten Lowe will serve as Junior Yell Leaders.
Mechanical engineering senior Jeff Zhao launched a write-in campaign for student body president through the popular facebook page he manages, “Aggie Memes for Redass Teens.” Zhao received 1,168 first-preference votes for SBP and was written in at least once for every other position, ultimately winning one of the 31 off-campus senator seats.
