Texas A&M University Police Department (UPD) has warned locals to ignore a warrant scam phone call that has been circulating.
UPD has had reports of people receiving calls that claim there is a warrant out for their arrest. The caller is utilizing a fake caller ID to make it appear as if the message is coming from the UPD phone number, 979-845-2345, according to a UPD news release from Sept. 12.
In the release, UPD said to remember they will never ask someone to pay debts without a chance to appeal the amount, require any specific payment method or demand payment without sending a notice in the mail first.
The UPD said people should call 979-845-2345 if they receive a call about an arrest and want to verify the information.
