President Mark A. Welsh III announced that Tom Reber of the Division of Student Affairs will be the interim replacement for Vice President for Student Affairs Joe Ramirez. The former Corps of Cadets commandant announced his retirement, effective Jan. 1, 2025, in October.
Welsh distributed the email announcement to all Division of Student Affairs employees on Monday, saying the university had launched a nationwide search for a permanent replacement. Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Timothy Scott will chair the search committee.
“With more than 40 years of service at Texas A&M University, including the Department of Recreational Sports and the Vice President’s Office where he currently serves as Executive Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Chief of Staff, Tom possesses a wealth of knowledge about the Division of Student Affairs,” the announcement reads. “I’m grateful for Tom’s leadership during this time of transition.”
Reber oversees the residence life and recreational sports departments and leads the division budget review and allocation process in his current role.
