Two familiar faces in college football will make their way to Aggieland for this weekend’s football matchup. Featuring Johnny Manziel and Rudy Ruettiger, Legends Only Tailgate is holding a meet and greet behind the Association of Former Students starting at 2 p.m. this Saturday.
Trish Rahe, who helped organize the event, is inviting fans of both teams to join for the day for two events — a tailgate and a watch party.
“We’re not A&M only, we’re not Notre Dame only,” Rahe said. “It’s about uniting fans … We’re just choosing to start here because I thought it would be a great start for us, but our goal is to unite fans together and show fans that you can have a great experience and you know a little rivalry is not a bad thing.”
Although the goal of the events are to unify fans, utilize local and Aggie owned businesses and help the community, Rahe said they’re also donating a portion of event proceeds to Texas Children’s Hospital.
Making their debut in Aggieland, they plan to expand among the college football community.
“We plan on doing tailgates all over,” Rahe said. “We thought A&M, the fact that it’s one, the first game of the season, right? Being here versus another great team — we just thought it would be a great opportunity to establish ourselves and show what we can do at a really good reputable school.”
Offering several types of food, beverages and private bathrooms, they’ll also have yard games and TVs available.
“We’re reaching not only the alumni groups, but we encourage you to bring your family as well,” Rahe said. “Our demographic is definitely not one or the other. We would love for everyone because we also want to provide a family environment.”
They’re not allowing walk up ticket sales the day of to abide by the association’s rules. If they have capacity remaining, Rahe said QR codes are available to buy through.
“It’s not guaranteed at all, and no matter what, it has to go online,” Rahe said. “We tell people that you’re at risk of us cutting the sales the day of. If you don’t pay a day ahead, depending on our count, we may choose just to cut it off and be done. So if anyone’s buying, it needs to be the day before the event.”
Legends Only Tailgate will be back in Aggieland with a booth for the Texas game in November.
