Auburn batting too much for A&M softball and Rachel Fox in opening series matchup

The Texas A&M softball team fell 8-1 to the Auburn Tigers in the first game of the three-game series at the Aggie Softball Complex on Friday.

The No. 22 Aggies (31-11, 7-6 SEC) sent senior Rachel Fox to the circle and it was a struggle for her all night against the potent Tiger offense.

Auburn (39-5, 11-2 SEC) got off to a fast start with a two RBI single from Jade Rhodes inbetween shortstop and third base to open the scoring. The Tigers continued the assault with another single from Jenna Abbott to drive in two more Tigers to extend the lead to 4-0. A sacrifice fly from Carlee Wallace ended the five-run first inning that put the Tigers up 5-0 and essentially put the game out of reach.

The Aggies mustered their only offense of the night in the bottom of the first when freshman Ashley Walters roped a double into the left-center field gap to drive in Cali Lanphear from first base. Auburn starting pitcher Rachael Walters performed admirably, allowing one run in a complete game effort.

The Aggies are back in action tomorrow against Auburn at the Aggie Softball Complex. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
