Green Bay Packers rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cooper was a fixture on defense for Texas A&M from 2020 to 2023.
Cooper recorded nine tackles, a sack and a key forced fumble in Sunday’s matchup despite only playing 34 defensive snaps. The forced fumble gave the Packers the ball near the Jaguars’ goal line and set up a score to give them a 10-point lead.
Cooper was all over the field, even showing blitz at the line of scrimmage before bailing 40 yards to break up a deep ball intended for another Aggie, Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk.
The Covington, Louisiana native has accounted for 38 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble this season for the Green and Gold.
“We’re going to keep pushing him to get better,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said in a press conference. “I’m excited about just the growth we’ve seen over the course of the last few weeks and anticipate him just becoming a better player the more reps he gets.”
Cooper and the Packers are set to face the Detroit Lions Sunday at 3:25 p.m. in a battle in the NFC North.
