Final gubernatorial debate: topic takeaways

Both nominees support Prop 1
Both Abbott and Davis are in favor of Proposition 1, a ballot proposition for the Nov. 4 election that would increase funding for highway construction by diverting money from the Rainy Day Fund.
Split on immigration
Davis is in favor of driver’s permits for people who entered the country illegally so that they will have appropriate training and be insured. Abbott says this cannot be addressed until the government can “fix our broken immigration system.”
Affordable Care Act
Abbott said Texas’ best option is to continue refusing Affordable Care Act funds, also known as Obamacare, and instead request a block grant to address the unique healthcare challenges in Texas. Davis said Texas is losing taxpayer dollars by rejecting the federal government’s offer.
Ebola case in Dallas
After a case of Ebola was confirmed Tuesday in Dallas, both candidates said the threshold for quarantine has already been met, and that they would work and speak with local health agencies in a case of medical emergency.
