An Aggie is one of 12 Marines missing after a helicopter crash off the coast of Hawaii Thursday.
The crash happened during a nighttime training mission. Marine Corps officials have identified the 12 Marines aboard the two CH-53 heavy-lift helicopters as four officers and eight enlisted Marines. Maj. Shawn M. Campbell, who graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in microbiology in 2001, was aboard one of the helicopters.

Campbell accepted his commission following his graduation from Texas A&M, said Campbell’s mother Donna McGrew in a family statement.
“My husband and I want everyone to know that this is not about us,” McGrew said in the statement. “This is about the families that are suffering, and about all the sacrifices that our military members and their families make on a daily basis.”
