Court 1 finished first with it going in the Rebels favor. The No. 8 ranked duo of A&M junior Lucciana Perez and senior Mia Kupres fell 6-3 to the No. 23 Ole Miss pairing of graduate student Emily Welker and junior Andrea Nova.
Court 3 concluded next with sophomore Lexington Reed and senior Daria Smetannikov defeating the freshman duo of Ichino Horikawa and Beatrice Stagno 6-4.
The Aggies came out triumphant on Court 2 as the No. 75 pairing of senior Violeta Martinez and freshman Ilinca Amariei beat the Rebels’ duo of sophomore Alice Soulie and freshman Riley Crowder 6-4, awarding the doubles point to A&M.
To begin singles, both teams came out steady with A&M leading in 3-of-6 singles matches. No. 31 Kupres led 7-5, No. 96 Martinez led 6-3 and No. 2 Perez ahead 7-5. No. 54 Amariei, Reed and Smetannikov struggled in the opening set trailing behind Nova, Crowder and Stagno.
Martinez continued her dominance, closing out the second set 6-3 against Horikawa, boosting A&M’s lead to 2-0.
Crowder finally got Ole Miss on the score board with back-to-back wins over Reed. Crowder took the first set 6-3 and the next with a similar 6-4 victory. With eyes shifting to Court 1, No. 2 Perez stomped out No. 15 Welker, another two-set matchup to give the Fightin’ Farmers a 3-1 advantage. The Lima, Peru native won the first set 7-5 and had a stronger second set finishing 6-3.
Court 3 featured a face off between No. 54 Amariei and Nova. The Rebel prevailed in the first set defeating Amariei 6-4, creating the chance for a Rebel comeback halfway through the singles matches. Despite Nova’s first set success, tides turned in the second with a shut out by Amariei as she put up six unanswered in the second set. Amariei came out victorious in the third 6-4, securing the 4-1 win for A&M.
This marked the 17th win of the season for A&M and its fourth straight victory. The Aggies will continue their road trip as they travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to take on No. 11 LSU at the LSU Tennis Complex on Sunday, March 29 at 12 p.m.
