Protecting its home turf, No. 3 Texas A&M women’s golf punched a first-place finish at the 22nd “Mo” Morial with a three-day 21-over team total at the Traditions Club in College Station. No. 12 sophomore Vanessa Borovilos claimed hardware of her own, with a second place individual, pieced together by a 3-over total.
Taking home the “Mo” Morial champion title in 2025 by a 38 stroke advantage, the Aggies faced a seemingly similar field. Up against 15 other squads, only three of which held a rank inside the top 40. However, the imitation of last year’s field didn’t bring as easy of a triumph.
With home course advantage, comes the capacity of housing two separate A&M squads each with the ability of claiming a top spot on the leaderboard.
In Round 1, the first five produced a 14-over team total, Borovilos set the pace with an 1-under, 71. The Canadian made a quick turnaround after her 11th place finish in the final round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur just two days prior. On the return to her home course she rallied a tournament-best round, highlighted by 12 consecutive pars. Her performance boasted a solo first-place spot at the conclusion of Day 1.
The second group of Aggies finished the first round 23-over as a team of four, forgoing a fifth man they also lost the potential of a dropped score.
As the first round was down on the scorecards and teams were in the clubhouse, A&M found itself tied for second with No. 35 Missouri both chasing leader Tulsa, by one stroke.
As the second day kicked off, the Maroon and White finally found a groove worth sticking to, as their 3-over team total turned over a sole second place spot. No. 94 junior Sky Sudberry was the low shooter of the day for the Fightin’ Farmers penciling in an 1-under, 71. A pair of even-par scorecards thanks to junior pair, No. 18 Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio and Louise Reau who also contributed to the 11-stroke improvement from the day prior.
However, every effort put forth by the Aggies was counteracted by a superb second round performance from the Baylor Bears. Aided by a 4-under, 68 from junior Charlotte Brook, the in-state foes recorded a 2-under team total and jumped five spots from its previous 18-over score. Swooping the No. 1 spot on the leaderboard, the Aggies were faced with another 1-stroke deficit out of first.
In just its last year at The “Mo”Morial, A&M was able to hit the ground running in the first two rounds with a 15 stroke gap headed into the final day. This time around, the Aggies had to fight for every last stroke in effort to protect their home course.
As Day 3 kicked off, the Bears relapsed into their same old habits from the first round, only solidifying a comeback story for the Aggies. Through the first nine the Fightin’ Farmers gained a six stroke lead positioning them in first place for the first time during the tournament.
Baylor, with an 8-over Round 3, fell to second place and the consistency from A&M paid off as a 4-over total propped it up to take home the champion title.
Borovilos’ runner-up finish imitated her performance from the year prior, notching back-to-back second-place finishes at The “Mo” Morial. No. 113 freshman Natalie Yen shot a 1-under, 71, jumping 18 spots into a tie for 23rd place. Sudberry stuck to a top-10 individual finish with a tie for 8th place. While García-Poggio, the 2025 individual champion of The “Mo” Morial found her way into 11th place with a 1-over, 73 on the final day.
The second pack representing the Maroon and White were off to a slower start as they wrapped up the three-day tournament 65-over and finished in 11th place.
The tournament marked the end to their regular season slate, as the Aggies’ next outing will be at the Southeastern Conference Championship starting on Friday, April 17 in Belleair, Florida.
