No. 20 Texas A&M baseball’s junior first baseman Gavin Grahovac and freshman outfielder Jorian Wilson earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors on Monday, March 30.
Grahovac was named SEC Player of the Week for the third time in his career, while Wilson earned his first weekly recognition, being named SEC Freshman of the Week.
In the midst of a five-game win streak, A&M rolled past Houston Christian, 5-1, on March 24, before securing its first series sweep of conference play against Missouri.
Grahovac launched four homers over the weekend against the Tigers, logging 12 RBI, seven runs, four walks and a pair of stolen bases. In Saturday’s contest, the Orange, California native went 2-for-5, with a pair of home runs, five RBI, three runs and two walks. Grahovac registered a .600 on-base percentage over the weekend, as well as a 1.600 slugging percentage.
The veteran first baseman raised his game in Sunday’s finale, blasting a pair of home runs for a second consecutive game and bringing home a career-best seven RBI. In the third inning, Grahovac recorded the second grand slam of his career with a deep ball past the center field wall for his sixth home run of the season.
Wilson made three starts in right field across the week, going 6-for-12 with a pair of home runs, four RBI, three runs, a walk and a stolen base. Against HCU, the Hallettsville native excelled on both sides of the ball, launching a solo shot onto the train tracks in the fourth, as well as an on-target throw to the plate in the fifth to gun down a potential run.
The star freshman recorded three RBIs in Friday’s opener against Missouri, going 2-for-5 with a leadoff homer to start the fourth frame, followed by a two-RBI double down the right field line to add to A&M’s lead. In Sunday’s finale, Wilson scored a run and recorded a career-best three hits, pushing his season total to 12.
A&M’s star-studded duo will return to Blue Bell Park on Tuesday, March 31, against Sam Houston at 6 p.m.
