The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team traveled to Auburn, Alabama to compete against the No. 1 Auburn Tigers. The Aggies were outclassed by the Tigers, losing on a score of 15-4.
The Maroon and White claimed victory in the reining event, despite Auburn earning two points from graduates Olivia Bradley and Michelle Fumagalli with scores of 71.25 and 65.75. The Aggies secured three points as senior Lauren Hanson, sophomore Isabelle Gonzalez and senior Mattie Gustin finished with a total score of 212.25.
Next, in the flat event, Auburn stormed back as they beat A&M with a score of 3-1. Senior Mary-Grace Segars, graduate Ellie Ferrigno and freshman Sadie Berkhout outscored the Aggies with scores of 69.5, 81 and 74. Sophomore Nicole McMillion was able to steal a point for the Maroon and White, with a score of 76.5. 5th year senior Devon Thomas also prevented the Tigers from scoring another point as she tied with freshman Ariana Marnell with a score of 74.5.
Auburn continued to demonstrate why it’s ranked so highly, as it dominated the A&M 5-0 in the Horsemanship, taking home all five points in the process. Even though they lost the event 5-0, the Aggies didn’t give up as senior Ellie Gerbrandt and sophomore Kendall Dirksen almost snagged two points, each with scores of 74. Senior Millie Landon, who finished with a score of 73.75, almost stole another point for the Aggies but lost by one point to Auburn’s freshman Abby Eddy.
In the Fences event, Auburn continued its stellar performance with another 5-0 sweep of the Maroon and White. Four Auburn riders outdueled the Aggies. Although Sophomore Alida Treuting tried to earn a point for the Fightin’ Farmers, she lost by one point to Ferrigno.
The Aggies compete next when they travel to Waco, Texas to match up against the Baylor Bears on Friday, Nov. 22.
