As the coaching carousel has rolled through the nation, No. 7 Texas A&M football is the latest program to feel the effects. With Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman set to retire following the Wildcats’ bowl game, A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein has emerged as the top candidate to fill the role, as first reported by the Manhattan Mercury
Klein, a Kansas State alum, played for the Wildcats from 2009-2012, where he was named Big 12 offensive player of the year and a Heisman Trophy finalist during his final season in Manhattan, Kansas.
Before becoming the Maroon and White offensive coordinator a season ago, Klein served in the same position at his alma mater. With the number of head coach openings, his name has circulated as one of the most up-and-coming young candidates, but it appears he has found his new home.
With the Aggies, Klein has overseen the emergence of redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed, who has totaled 53 touchdowns since taking the reins under center last season.
Whether Klein takes the job or not this offseason, he will remain as the Aggies’ offensive playcaller as they begin their journey through their first-ever College Football Playoff run.
