The Texas A&M coaching staff could utilize running back Brandon Williams on the other side of the ball at cornerback this season, Billy Liucci reported on Twitter Monday.
“A&M coaches thinking outside the box…plan to make senior Brandon Williams @DaSlimC a two-way, ‘Iron Man’ player in 2015 at RB/CB,” Liucci said in a tweet.
Williams has all the tools to succeed in his new role. He consistently runs the 40-yard dash in the low 4.4 range and his six-foot, 200-pound frame gives him ideal size for the position. Williams should be more than capable of staying in step and bumping shoulders with SEC wideouts, but the decision to move him to the other side of the ball this late in the game is probably a result of both the depth at the running back slot and what we can only assume has been a lackluster spring for the defensive backs.
Last year, Brandon Williams saw action in every single game at the running back position, while getting the starting nod in six of those contests. While splitting time in the offensive backfield with Tra Carson and the recently departed Trey Williams, he amassed 374 yards and three touchdowns on 86 carries.
