Carter named National Freshman of the Year by USA Today

Texas A&M guard Chennedy Carter was named Freshman of the Year by USA Today Sports the publication announced on Wednesday. Carter finished the regular season leading Division I freshmen in scoring with an average of 21.7 points per game. 
Carter wins the award after notching SEC Freshman of the Year, first team All-SEC Tournament Team award and All-SEC First Team recognition. She also set the Texas A&M freshman records in points, netting 722. 
The Mansfield native ranks in the top 10 players in Division I freshmen in points per game, assists per game, steals per game, field goal percentage and free throw percentage. 
The No. 14 A&M women’s basketball team will learn their NCAA Tournament seed on Monday, March 12 at 6 p.m. on the NCAA Selection Show televised on ESPN.
