Former A&M linebacker dismissed from Arizona

Monday afternoon, Arizona head coach Kevin Sumlin — formerly Texas A&M’s head coach — told reporters that former A&M linebacker and Arizona transfer Santino Marchiol will no longer participate in Arizona’s football program.
“[Marchiol] was informed this morning that he was no longer on the team,” Sumlin said.

Last week, Marchiol told USA Today that current A&M coaches violated NCAA rules by giving him and other A&M players hundreds of dollars to host recruits during unofficial visits.
Marchiol also accused A&M coaches of hosting practices outside the NCAA-approved schedule and claimed that A&M training staff mishandled an ankle injury he suffered in June.
During A&M’s weekly press conference last Thursday, A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said the program would fully comply with any investigations into the allegations.
“We take it very seriously,” Fisher said. “We’re open to all enquiries. We’ll be very open in our records of everything we have. We feel very confident in the things in which we have done…we’ll corporate in any way, shape, or form…”
