With its College Football Playoff debut just over the horizon, No. 7 Texas A&M football had two representatives for the Southeastern Conference Football 2025 Awards, as veteran talent shone bright through the course of the season.
Starting on the defensive side of the ball, redshirt senior defensive end Cashius Howell was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, making him the first Aggie to take home the honor since A&M joined the SEC in 2012.
A commanding presence on the defensive line, Howell has used his blend of size and athleticism to lead the SEC in sacks with a whopping 11.5. Three of those sacks were on consecutive plays against Utah State on Sep. 6, the first time such a feat was accomplished in over a decade.
Switching to the other side of the trenches, graduate student offensive lineman Trey Zuhn III won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, awarded to the conference’s top offensive lineman, sharing the honors with Alabama junior OL Kadyn Proctor.
Since joining the Aggies in 2021, Zuhn has remained steadfast and committed to the A&M program through a coaching shift, starting in 49 games throughout his career in Aggieland.
Howell and Zuhn join junior wide receiver KC Concepcion on the First Team All-SEC unit as part of the conference’s best, but for coach Mike Elko and Co., there’s still plenty of work to be done before a first-round College Football Playoff matchup against No. 10 Miami.
