No. 15 Texas A&M softball’s senior designated player Micaela Wark was named NFCA National Player of the Week announced Tuesday, March 31.
Wark went 9-for-12 through four games, batting 5-for-6 with runners in scoring position and 4-for-4 with two outs. The Oklahoma State transfer launched three long balls, with eight RBIs and five runs, while recording a 1.500 slugging percentage and .786 on-base percentage.
“She’s put in the work,” head coach Trisha Ford said. “When her and Tallen came this fall, they were in the cages nonstop. Could I have imagined where she’s at right now? No, but I’m happy. I think that it’s a combination of her work, being healthy and feeling comfortable.”
Going 2-for-2 in the Aggies’ midweek game against the Bearkats, Wark logged two RBIs, three runs, a walk and smashed a two-run homer in the third inning.
The Frisco native put the pressure on No. 1 Texas over the weekend, leading A&M with seven hits, six RBIs and a pair of home runs. Wark provided the Aggies with offensive firepower throughout the series with an early RBI single, followed by a fourth-inning home run blast in Game 1, a single RBI in Game 2 and a two-run first-inning shot in Game 3’s series finale.
Wark has recorded multiple hits in five consecutive games and is the first Aggie to earn NFCA Player of the Week honors since Julia Cottrill in 2023.
The Maroon and White’s star senior will take the field on Thursday, April 2, when A&M hosts No. 11 Georgia at Davis Diamond, with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
