Coming off an intrasquad Maroon and White scrimmage last week, Texas A&M ice hockey is set to take on Oklahoma State to open the 2024-2025 season at Spirit Ice Arena. Puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The Aggies finished the 2023-24 season 9-19 in American Collegiate Hockey Association play. Last time out against the Cowboys was in the 2022-2023 campaign, when the Aggies swept them 12-2 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Cowboys went 13-13-1 in the 2023-2024 season and are likely looking for revenge against Aggies in their home arena.
An Aggie to watch this weekend is sophomore forward and Coppell native Jacob Smith, who was responsible for 28 points last season and was named Team Rookie of the Year while earning Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference First Team All-Conference honors in the 2023-2024 season.
Look for ice action from senior F Matthew Perri, who was named Team Offensive Player of the Year for his performance during the 2022-2023 season and led the team with 31 points that same year.
A Cowboy to watch is sophomore F Coulter Clevenger, a Yukon, Oklahoma native who averaged 1.82 points per game in 2022-2023, tallying 40 on the season. Clevenger also led the team in assists.
Since it is not a university-sponsored event, student sports passes are not valid, but tickets are available through the Texas A&M ice hockey website. Spirit Ice Arena has been home to Aggie ice hockey since 2005.
