Coming off its first loss of the season versus LSU, the Texas A&M women’s club soccer team is headed to Fort Worth to take on TCU on Saturday.
The Aggies are 4-1 in regular season play after a 3-1 loss to LSU on Oct. 13, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The last time the Aggies and Horned Frogs faced off ended in a 1-0 loss for the Aggies. Going into practice this week, co-head coach Will Peter explained his mindset is to not dwell on the LSU loss nor the past matchup with TCU.
Peter said the team only lost to LSU due to “fixable” mistakes.
“We missed a couple of key plays,” Peter said. “We’re not going to change the way we approach the game.”
Returning from fall break meant the team was only able to fit in one practice day before heading to Louisiana, where it premiered a new, unfamiliar formation on the field, sport management junior and goalkeeper Camryn Cary explained.
“We were out of our groove,” Cary said.
Cary noted she has never been scored on three times in one game like what happened in Baton Rouge.
“I work hard every practice, and I do not want to go through that again,” Cary said.
After playing five of seven regular season games this season, the two matchups left on the schedule are TCU on Saturday and Rice on Sunday, Oct. 27. Only the top three teams in the conference will advance to the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association regional tournament at the University of North Texas on Nov. 1-3.
“We can beat them if we play our game,” Cary added.
Last season, the women lost in the group stage of nationals to UC Davis after its first-day action, winning against Miami University and losing to Alabama. The NIRSA nationals competition is scheduled for Nov. 21-23 in Round Rock.
The Aggies will play the Horned Frogs at Justin Fields at 1 p.m. Saturday.
