Texas A&M athletics officially announced that defending World Cup champions Argentina will face off against Honduras at Kyle Field on Saturday, June 6. The match is part of the Road to 26, a series of international exhibitions in anticipation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The contest will be the second international soccer match ever held at Kyle Field after the maroon and white coliseum hosted a friendly between Brazil and Mexico in front of 85,249 fans on June 8, 2024.
“We look forward to seeing international soccer return to Kyle Field, especially ahead of the World Cup this summer,” Texas A&M Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said. “This is a very exciting time for soccer across the world as well as in the state of Texas. It will be a great opportunity to welcome fans from all over to our campus and one of the most elite venues in college sports. We are always looking to advance the brand of Texas A&M to grow its established global reach and impact. We know hosting these kinds of events emphasizes that strategy and allows us to continue expanding our footprint.”
A&M isn’t the only Southeastern Conference program preparing to welcome international football, as Argentina will take on Iceland at Jordan-Hare Stadium, home of the Auburn Tigers, on Tuesday, June 9. Tickets for both SEC-centered matches will go on sale on Wednesday, April 15 at 9 a.m. CST.
“We’re proud to welcome international soccer back to College Station,” College Station Mayor John Nichols said. “Events like this showcase our ability to host on a global stage and give our community and visitors the chance to experience something truly special right here at home.”
